The Truth of the Gospel
Aiming for Reconciliation
[2Co 5:20-21 ESV] 20 Therefore, we are ambassadors for Christ, God making his appeal through us. We implore you on behalf of Christ, be reconciled to God. 21 For our sake he made him to be sin who knew no sin, so that in him we might become the righteousness of God.
Proceeding to Reconciliation
[Eph 2:1-10 ESV] 1 And you were dead in the trespasses and sins 2 in which you once walked, following the course of this world, following the prince of the power of the air, the spirit that is now at work in the sons of disobedience-- 3 among whom we all once lived in the passions of our flesh, carrying out the desires of the body and the mind, and were by nature children of wrath, like the rest of mankind. 4 But God, being rich in mercy, because of the great love with which he loved us, 5 even when we were dead in our trespasses, made us alive together with Christ--by grace you have been saved-- 6 and raised us up with him and seated us with him in the heavenly places in Christ Jesus, 7 so that in the coming ages he might show the immeasurable riches of his grace in kindness toward us in Christ Jesus. 8 For by grace you have been saved through faith. And this is not your own doing; it is the gift of God, 9 not a result of works, so that no one may boast. 10 For we are his workmanship, created in Christ Jesus for good works, which God prepared beforehand, that we should walk in them.
What is our initial condition before God?
Who acts first in reconciliation with God?
What does God to for reconciliation with Him?
Fill in the blanks: We are justified not by ___, but by ___, through ___.
The Response to the Gospel
[Mar 1:15 ESV] 15 and saying, "The time is fulfilled, and the kingdom of God is at hand; repent and believe in the gospel."
What are two aspects of a God's expected response to the Gospel?
[Rom 10:9-10 ESV] 9 because, if you confess with your mouth that Jesus is Lord and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved. 10 For with the heart one believes and is justified, and with the mouth one confesses and is saved.
What must we confess to be saved?
What must we believe to be saved?
What does it mean to be justified?
The Treasure of the Gospel
[1Pe 3:18 ESV] 18 For Christ also suffered once for sins, the righteous for the unrighteous, that he might bring us to God, being put to death in the flesh but made alive in the spirit,
